Nicolas Rolaz began sailing at the age of eight and says it’s the freedom of being on the water that first attracted him to the sport.

At just 23 years old, Nicolas is the youngest team member at Alinghi Red Bull Racing, but the former Junior World Champion has more than enough talent to have earned his place in the team.

Nicolas is also an Optimist World Champion, Laser European Cup winner and has more than 50 podiums since he started racing.

All of Nicolas’ success almost passed him by. “I was about to quit sailing when I was 13, I just didn’t like it anymore,” he explained. “Thanks to my parents, who pushed me to continue in the sport, one year later I was crowned world champion. That’s why it means so much to be part of this team, it shows me that the hard work of the previous years paid off!” Nicolas added.
Away from the water, Nicolas other interests include cycling, cars, coffee, wine and watches, he also jokes that he’d “Like to be able to grow a beard!”
