Swiss sailor Maxime Bachelin saw his older brother sailing and he wanted to try it for himself, he was eight years old when he started sailing in an Optimist. Maxime then attended his first regatta and it was the competition and a desire to perform that motivated him to become a professional sailor.

He has won a Swiss Championship, finished seventh in the European Championship and 10th in the World Championship in the 420 category. After his success, Maxime decided to focus on sailing competitions as part of a team.

Maxime has since finished fourth in the European Championship on the 49er. And believes that being part of the Alinghi Red Bull Racing is a: “Dream come true and I’m so excited to perform for this team.”

He also explains that it’s a dream of every sailor to compete in the America’s Cup. “Sail on foiling boats whose technology and speed are at the forefront is as good as it gets. Added to the fact that our goal is to push these boats to its limits for the race. And it is the most prestigious regatta for a sailor and the fact of developing a boat is of great interest to me.”

Away from sailing Maxime enjoys doing activities with his friends, such as climbing, paddle tennis and skiing. He is also studying to become a nurse. However, the most unusual fact about Maxime is that he doesn’t like to get soaking wet, surprising when his career involves being so close to water.
