Young sailor Florian Trüb was first attracted to sailing due to the complexity of having to mix nature and sport to be successful.
The US-born Swiss sailor started sailing on his grandparents’ boat at the age of eight and has already experienced the feeling of competing in the America’s Cup when he came third in the Red Bull Youth Cup for Team Tilt. Florian says that he got into racing quite late but started in keelboats – not the usual path of Optimists and Lasers that most sailors start on.
His role within the team is to produce power to help manoeuvre the boat, which means he likes to keep himself fit and healthy when off the boat. As the boat is still being designed, Florian isn’t 100% sure of his position but says he will be: “producing power to adjust sails and as well be trimming during manoeuvres. I will also be in charge of all the communication systems we use on water.”
Florian says being part of Alinghi Red Bull Racing is a dream come true and that he’s: “living his greatest passion and that every day is a fun day.”
When not competing or trying to stay healthy, like many sport stars, Florian is helping grow a start-up in Switzerland.
